What is ITS Radar International?
The ITS Radar International project provides intelligence for the Highways Agency on ITS developments in Europe and around the world. It summarises key information for decision makers and practitioners on activities related to Intelligent Transport Systems (ITS).
ITS Radar International covers specific areas of key interest to the Highways Agency. These are:
- European ITS research projects - including 7th Framework programme and EasyWay
- European Commission ITS activities - including policy, transport and eSafety
- Location Positioning - including developments in GNSS and positioning information relevant to ITS
- ITS Standards - including location referencing, data exchange and other codes of practice and guidelines relevant to ITS in the Highways Agency
- ITS Pilots- pilots and trials of new ITS services from around the world
- ITS Technologies- developments in technologies relevant to ITS from around the world.
This follows on from the successful HA EU WATCH project carried out in 2003-2005 and 2005-2007 and the ITS Radar project (2005-2006).
How does this help the Highways Agency?
The Highways Agency has a stated aim to become more integrated within Europe, and has a desire to be informed about ITS developments in Europe and around the world. Awareness is improving within the Highways Agency of ITS activities, pilots and developments in new technologies. The project also identifies opportunities for the Highways Agency to take part in activities in Europe, highlighting where the Highways Agency can benefit most from these activities.
What services does ITS Radar International provide?
The project provides the following services:
- A regular Email News service, delivered to your inbox, containing brief summaries of news items which are linked to articles on the web site
- This website provides more detailed articles on these and other news items under the six key themes; these are also compiled into monthly ‘Newsletters' which are published on the web site
- News on future conferences, events, working groups, proposals for projects and consultation exercises in which it may be of value for the Highways Agency to become involved
- Updates on the work of the EasyWay programme for implementing ITS on the Trans-European Road Network (under ITS Research)
- Fact Sheets and Intelligence Reports providing more detailed information on specific topics
- A standards tracking service which reports the development of ITS standards

Reports about the work of the project, including analysis of web site statistics and the outcome of consultation with subscribers to the service.
What next?
The current phase of the project started in March 2008 and is expected to run until March 2010.
